Andreas Buechel

Artist / Producer / Composer / Publisher

“My heart and mind are in my music.”

There’s a critical mindset that undergirds the music of Sax O’Groove, the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Andreas Buechel, and it holds that if you want to be the best, you’ve got to work with and learn from the best to accomplish that goal. And for the past several years, Buechel has done just that, working amongst some of the finest contemporary jazz artists and producers, all the while honing his own skills in order to deliver his own sultry sounds to the mix and deliver excellence.

Inspired by notable artists such as David Sanborn, Kenny G, and Dave Koz, Buechel has built his sound around the soprano saxophone, also playing alto and tenor sax and lending a little guitar when needed. Yet, his mantra of seeking out the best has led him to work with a myriad of guest artists, each adding in their signature skills to help flesh out the Sax O’Groove sound, a sound that tends toward the smooth and contemporary jazz genre but is never tied down to that, intent upon letting the music lead.

Producers Darren Rahn, Nils, Shilts, and John Odio have each lent a hand in helping to shape Buechel’s work, with his first self-titled album being mastered at none other than London’s Abbey Road Studios, but it’s the work of guest musicians like Ricky Lawson, Brian Culbertson, Billy Steinway (Crusaders), Katja Rieckermann (Rod Stewart), and Ricardo Ramirez (Ruben Blades), among others, that has really served to press his sound further, providing the canvas for his soulful playing.

Beginning in 2009, it took Sax O’Groove a few years to gain traction but in the past few years they’ve released two well received albums. 2013’s Sax O’Groove found the collective bridging into a variety of sonic textures, sampling reggae, blues, disco, pop, and more while recording at locations in Costa Rica and Germany. More recently, Together hearkens back to the band’s collective nature, bringing together a stellar set of celebrated musicians in order to create something bigger than themselves. Continuing to draw from a myriad of sounds, the album boasts the song “Sea and Back,” a romantic duet penned by Buechel for his children Lea, Ina, and Anne.

Andreas is also a successful publisher. He moved into its publisher Print Sound UG CDs, songbooks and sheet music. He is the publisher, for example, of the songbooks of Michael Lington and Nils or relocated with its own CD label, the only CDs of Smooth Jazz Sensation "AkustisTICOS" from Costa Rica.

It’s that passion and that commitment to excellence which fuels Andreas Buechel and Sax O’Groove, a passion to deliver excellent, eclectic European-influenced jazz and pop, which keeps him going. And it’s his hope that you’ll allow his music in to touch your heart, mind, and soul.
